LG To Market Air Conditioner Capable of Fighting Bird Flu

South Korean firm LG Electronics has said that it will start to roll out an air conditioner that is equipped with a filter made from using an enzyme contained in the "the pungent national dish kimchi" Apparently, //this enzyme will confer protection against the dreaded bird flu virus.

"We developed the filter with the aim of protecting people against bird flu," LG spokeswoman Park Se-won said. The filter was fabricated after assessing the results of four studies, which pointed to the fact that the filter killed the deadly H5N1 virus. Kimchi is a dish made of pickled radish or cabbage and has garlic, hot pepper and ginger. The dish is very healthy and has got a powerful odor as well. Koreans believe that the dish confers health benefits and thought that it protected them against SARS as well. LG will start marketing the filters in China and Southeast Asia, "Since the filters are made with only the enzyme extracted from kimchi, the smell doesn't follow," Se-won said.
