Kottayam Medical College To be Upgraded

Kottayam: The Kerala government has promised the people the financial support required to upgrade its medical facilities in government institutions //

The Chief Minister inaugurated the Children's Cancer Care Centre and Paediatric Intensive Care unit at the Medical College Hospital, he said the government will contribute Rs 75 lakh and the rest will be through loan. He said that steps were being taken to complete the ongoing development activities as part of the modernisation programme in the Medical College Hospital here speedily.

He added that Rs 1.5 crore modern clinical lab construction would be completed within two weeks and Kottayam Medical College would be made a model hospital and the children's hospital a super specialty centre.

The Health Minister K K Ramachandran presided over the meeting and said that steps were taken to fill the existing vacancies of nurses and other employees.

There has been a chronic shortage of nurses in India more so recently due to shortage of nurses in USA and UK. Many of the nurses in middle east are from Kerala too. The nurses have left for many of these countries leaving the local hospitals facing shortages. Most of the India states have also depended on the nurses from Kerala.
