Kolkata: Landmark Health City on the Cards

A 5,000-bed health city is very much on the cards that will be a landmark on the EM Bypass. This is slated to be a Rs 1000 crore project which will come up// in two phases that will facilitate state of the art healthcare for kidney, heart and cancer patients. Bangalore and Ahmedabad will follow suit with the ‘Health City’ concept.

Dr Devi Shetty, Asia Heart Foundation chairman, had a meeting with the chief minister to sanction 20 acres of land near Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences. Dr Shetty said: “Today we discussed with the health problem of the city with the chief minister. Once the land is allotted we will complete the first phase of the international standard health city within 10 months. We will agree to the deal the state government will offer to us.”

According to him, nearly 30,000 patients from Europe, the West Asia and from within India are expected to avail the healthcare facility. He also ensures that 50 per cent beds would be reserved for the poor.
