Kasturba Medical College Organizes 'CME- Orth 2005' From 4th To 6th November

A Continuing Medical Education Programme 'CME- Orth 2005' is being organized by the Orthopedics department of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal from November 4 to 6. The programme includes course lectures,// clinical case discussions and demonstration of orthosis, prosthesis and radiological techniques.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr. R S P Rao, Dean of Kasturba Medical College. Dr D P Saraswath, medical superintendent and COO of Kasturba Hospital was the guest of honour. The postgraduate participants from all over the country will be will be taught by eminent faculty from leading medical colleges and hospitals.

One of the centralized attractions of the Kasturba Medical College is the Anatomy museum that has over 1000 dissected specimens of the human body organs and animals. The museum has been established by Dr S.S. Godbole, the college's first Anatomy Professor and has contributed 650 specimens by careful dissection, processing and mounting. His techniques are being followed even today.

The museum was opened in 1954 and is open to the public through the week at a nominal entrance fee. The elephant and whale skulls and the long king cobra skeleton continue to fascinate many visitors. The unique interactive teaching environment attracts students from both school and college.

The museum has numerous skeletons and anatomical specimens highlighting abnormalities found in patients. Cross-sectional specimens, radiographs, developmental anatomy models and skeletons of human and other vertebrates are also on display.

The institute proposes to start a digital or virtual museum for which wok has already begun.
