Karnataka Government To Bifurcate Health Services

The Karnataka government is planning to bifurcate the Health and Family Welfare Department into two wings, namely Health Administration and Health Services//. This step is thought to allow for streamlined health services.

State Health and Family Welfare Minister R Ashok said that the step was being taken to ensure that specialist doctors did not abuse the system. Initially the government will ask 23 doctors who were on deputation with the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP), to assume positions with various taluk headquarters.

Doctors who complete post-graduate courses in Government medical colleges will have to undergo a compulsory five-year rural service. The Minister also said that the services were not affected by junior doctors striking against the quotas.
