A poor student in Orissa's Bhadrak district now has hopes of pursuing his post-graduation after President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam intervened //in his struggle to secure a study loan.
Imran Alli, 23, a resident of Bhadrak town, secured the first position in his graduation in social work. He managed to get admission at the National Institute of Social Work and Social Science here to pursue postgraduate studies.
Alli, the son of a class four government employee, however found it difficult to arrange Rs.100,000 for the course fee and his living expenses in the state capital, reported the Oriya news portal odisha.com Saturday.
Alli's friends suggested that he obtain a loan from a bank, but the meritorious student failed to get a positive response from any of the banks in Bhadrak.
He then decided to write to Kalam through the president's official website, requesting his intervention.
Alli got a response from the president's office recently. It advised him to contact senior officials of the State Bank of India and the Indian Bank in his hometown.
Dilip Satapathy, the general manager of the Indian Bank here, reportedly wrote to Alli a couple of days ago, asking him to submit his details to avail of a study loan from the bank.
The letter has raised Alli's hopes of completing his higher studies.
