After signing contracts with the District Health Boards (DHBs), striking junior doctors returned to hospital calling off their strike. //
The doctor's union - Resident Doctors' Association (RDA) and the DHBs met and analyzed the contracts for about six hours on Monday and planned to meet on Thursday for confirming the results.
Nearly 2,500 junior doctors took part in the strike, which lasted for 5 days.
But unfortunately last time talk was a failure and the RDA might call another strike – expects health correspondent's of Radio New Zealand's.
'After been getting it to the knowledge of DHBs, the problems remained to struggle us' – a junior doctor at Middlemore Hospital, Aimee England said.
This strike issue arouse after the DHBs imposed doctors' employment contracts, which the junior doctors refused to sign. The contract would have given more power to the DHBs.
Now the added problem for the returning medicos is to be able to cope with the backlog work, that the health authorities want them to clear.
Patients stayed away from the hospitals during the days of strike and this helped to cope with the situation said Anne Aitcheson, DHBs' National Coordinator of Contingency Planning.
Ms. Aitcheson. added that the patients with more serious conditions and needing urgent attention will be given priority for treatment.
