Job Opportunities for People Living With AIDS

At Chennai, Tessa Brewer, wife of the London Mayor inaugurated the Rs. 1.75-crore one-year project. The main aim is to create jobs for people// whom are living with HIV/AIDS. This project was launched at the office of the Indian Network for People living with HIV/AIDS (INP+). This project, Challenge Fund, is an effort to spread awareness about AIDS and to help those with the disease.

The United Kingdom's Department for International Development is funding the project in India. After this project the INP+ plans to set up a national HIV/AIDS policy and advocacy centre in New Delhi. The INP+ aims at giving importance to issues such as access to treatment, greater involvement of people living with HIV/AIDS and positive prevention. The project is planned to conduct workshops across the country and involve people at both the state and district level. Mrs. Brewer at the inauguration presented two scooters and two helmets worth Rs. 85,000. The Positive Living Centre project at Namakkal will use the scooter to transport people to hospital or to testing and counselling centres.
