AIDS activist Jeff Getty, a sport in the true sense of the word, a willing guinea pig for several treatments including the famous bone marrow transplant from a baboon//, passed away in California at age 49. Getty leaves behind Ken Kleuh, wife and companion for 26 years, his dad and three siblings.
Getty died of heart failure in Joshua tree, Calif. Getty following a cancer treatment. He became famous after Doctors at San Francisco General Hospital transplanted into him bone marrow from a baboon in 1995. The experiment did not do much to the medical field and was termed a failure, yet Getty regained his health and continued to offer himself as a guinea pig for several experiments.
Getty is deeply remembered for his contribution to the development of a mixture of drugs, successful in controlling AIDS.
