Italian Olives Recalled from Canada

International food importer Excelsior Foods is calling back tubs of olives produced by Italian firm Marcella's Garden.//

There are fears by the food company as well as the Canadian Food Inspection Agency that the olives might contain the bacterial species responsible for the type of food poisoning referred to as botulism.

Botulism is said to be fatal in some cases. In general, symptoms are nausea, fatigue, vomiting, dizziness, dry throat, respiratory failure, and paralysis.

To be noted is that some food products containing the organism may not taste, or even smell bad.

The batches recalled from British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario are marked as:

Baresana Olives, lot 009/6, UPC 0 62136 90067 8 Calabrese Olives, lot 012/6, UPC 0 62136 90070 8 Cerignola Olives, lot 011/6, UPC 0 62136 90069 2 Jumbo Stuffed Olives, lot 011/9, UPC 0 62136 90071 5 Kalamata Olives, lot 005/6, UPC 0 62136 90066 1 Nocellara Olives, lot 010/6, UPC 0 62136 90068 5
