Irregular Meals Could Be a Major Cause of Obesity

According to a telephonic survey conducted by Dr. David Schutt of Thomson Medstat, a Michigan-based health-care research firm it was found that more than three-quarters// of Americans who are obese think their eating habits are healthy.

About 11,000 people were contacted by phone and the participants said that they did vigorous exercise for times a week. About 28% of the obese people said that they snacked two or more times a day. In conclusion Dr. David Schutt said that these people are not aware of healthy eating habits or perhaps they are lying.

Their study results were so much in contradiction with the figures quoted by the International Obesity Task Force and the World Health Organization, which is about 300 million obese individuals across the world. According to the researchers from the University of Texas it was found that irregular meals would switch on a particular gene which would make the mice expect food at irregular intervals irrespective of the regular meals. The experiments were conducted in mice and the findings were published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
