International Conference On Thoracic Cancer To Be Held In Jordan

Jordan is to host a symposium on Thoracic cancer, reportedly the countries number one cancer killer. The conference is supposedly expected// to have specialist comprising of radiation oncologists, thoracic surgeons, radiologists and investigators. These experts are flying in from United states of America, Arab and several European countries. The symposium is held to discuss the latest findings in diagnosis and treatment for thoracic cancers from around the globe. Several papers will be presented on the changes in treatment paradigms and controversial issues in the management of the small-cell and non-small-cell lung cancer.

Annually there are over 200 patients in Jordan diagnosed with lung cancer, which constitutes 95 percent of thoracic cancers. It is however strongly believed that this number may in-fact increase in the coming 10 to15 years.

Hikmat Abdul Razeq, chief of hematology and medical oncology at Jordan's King Hussein Cancer Center, in an interview explained the cause behind this view.

"Unfortunately, the current trend of cigarette smoking will eventually cause many future cancer patients," Abdul Razeq said, explaining that a majority of population of Jordan is under 20 years of age and "toxins the body absorbs from cigarettes could take 20 years to manifest into a disease."

The doctors of Jordan seem to be gearing up to take on a new wave of health care tribulations. However the question is will the youth of Jordan be able to face the grim future that awaits them.
