Integrated Child Development Scheme

Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme was launched in 1975 in 33 Community Development Blocks. The Scheme was gradually expanded and today it covers 6118// blocks in the country including 4790 in rural areas, 805 in tribal areas and 523 in urban slums. This was stated by the Minister of State for Women and Child Development Smt. Renuka Chowdhury in a reply to a question by Shri Janardhana Poojary in Rajya Sabha today.

She further stated that the services provided to children below six years and pregnant and lactating mothers include supplementary nutrition, immunization, referral services, health check-up, pre-school non-formal education and nutrition and health education.

Number of children (3-6 years) attending pre-school education at Anganwadi Centre under ICDS Scheme As on 31.3.2006 were 24492450.
