Infected With H5N1 Virus but Not Affected

A person who contacted the birdflu virus during the recent outbreak in South Korea does not show any symptoms of the disease, according to reports.//

The South Korean Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported that the anti-flu drug ‘Tamiflu’ taken by the person following the outbreak must have prevented the development of the illness.

The infected person was a poultry farm hand and seems to have developed immunity to the deadly H5N1 strain.

An official at the center, Kwon Joon-wook said, “The person is neither a patient nor currently carries the virus," and assured that the virus would spread to other humans.

However this is not the first case of human infection in South Korea. During the outbreaks during 2003 and 2004, nine people had been infected but none of them developed the disease and remained healthy.
