Individuals with sleep related breathing disorders more prone to heart disease

A good night’s sleep is a gift, exclusive to the blessed. The less fortunate are those with sleeping disorders, who may experience problems such as early morning headaches or serious daytime fatigue. Among the various sleep disorders, sleep apnea in its mild or moderate form is commonly experienced. Sleep apnea is a disorder characterized by brief interruptions of breathing during sleep. Most individuals may have less severe sleep related breathing problem that may go unrecognized. These sleep disturbances are more conmen in men and those who are overweight.

A study by American national heart, lung and blood institute-funded sleep heart health study research group has shown that individuals with sleep related breathing problems were more at risk than those with no sleep related breathing problems by 1.5 times.

Even though studies have not been very confirmatory, medical practioners have advised general public who suspect that, they have sleep related breathing disorders, under go diagnostic tests for heart disease as soon as possible. Changes in life style and treatment can result in a significant cure.
