to provide five basic vaccines and introduce three new ones. "We will give India the money in two phases. In the first phase, we will provide $40 million and then more than double it in// the second phase," said Dr Julian Lob-Levyt, Secretary, GAVI.

Addressing a press conference after the conclusion of the 3rd GAVI Partners meet here, Mr Lob-Levyt said India has made a lot of progress in the vaccination and immunization program and would get money to increase the coverage of immunization program.

The money will come in handy especially for states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh where the immunization programme is close to a breakdown. Only 10 per cent children in Bihar and 23 percent in UP are vaccinated.

GAVI funding across the world in the last two years is believed to have saved the lives of three million children.
