Indian Railways Reverts To Serving Chicken on Menu

After the cooling down of the bird flu scare, the Indian Railways has decided to revert back to the staple diet of the non-veggies and has decided to bring back the chicken on its menu. //

"Indian Railways have withdrawn the order prohibiting the serving of chickens and eggs in any form from railway static catering units or mobile catering units," the Railway ministry said in a statement. "It is now safe to consume properly cooked poultry meat as conventional cooking at temperature of 70 degrees Celsius will inactivate the H5N1 virus." However, World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines and strict instructions about the method of cooking have been issued to staff working in the canteens as well as Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) employees. Half-boiled egg, fried eggs, omelettes and roasted chicken are a strict no-no, while staff has also been advised to wear protective items like goggles and gloves while handling chicken.
