A 15-year-old boy from Rajasthan's Jodhpur city has been invited by non-resident Indians (NRIs) in Mauritius to tie as many as 400 turbans for a traditional Indian wedding to be held June 18. //

Ajeetpal Singh, who has a knack of tying archetypical Indian turbans, was in Singapore last year to tie 125 turbans or "safas" for a marriage ceremony. And he completed his work in less than one and a half hours.

Singh plunged into this art at the age of 12 and his three-year experience has made him such an expert that he takes only about 40 seconds to tie one safa.

Besides, he can tie turbans in 15 different styles, with Jodhpur-style safa being his favourite - which remains intact for more than six months.

"Wearing a turban is a part of our culture, but sadly people are forgetting how to tie it. I am proud of being able to help this age-old art to survive," he said.

Singh's father Sher Singh Rathode is proud of his son.

"Our family has been into this business for generations, and my son has preserved our legacy. His excellence in the turban-tying techniques has given a new height to this profession. He is regularly hired by NRIs," he said.
