Indian-American Appointed for US Hospital Top Post

The South Nassau Communities Hospital here has appointed a noted Indian-American surgeon as vice-chair of its surgery department.// Rajiv Datta is recognised as a leading head and neck surgeon in the US and is an internationally known leader in surgical oncology.

"This is truly a career highlight and I am honoured and privileged to serve the hospital and its medical community in this capacity," Datta said.

Datta also serves as the hospital's chief of surgical oncology/head and neck surgery, a press release said.

"Datta has the complete respect of the entire hospital community, including the medical staff and administration," said Henry Partridge, the chairman of the department of surgery.

A graduate from the Grant Medical College in Mumbai, India, Datta has trained with some prestigious surgical oncology and head and neck surgery programmes in the world, including the Tata Memorial Hospital, the largest cancer center in Asia, and England's Royal College of Surgeons, where he was a fellow.

The South Nassau Communities Hospital, located in Oceanside, New York, is one of the region's largest hospitals with 435 beds, more than 820 physicians and 2,200 employees.

The hospital is an acute-care, not-for-profit teaching hospital that provides state-of-the-art care in cardiac, oncologic, orthopedic, pain management, mental health and emergency services.
