Increasing awareness of sexually transmitted infection chlamydia

Chlamydia a common sexually transmitted disease known to be covert in most cases yet notorious in causing serious setbacks to health in both sexes is now more discussed// about and people seem to be aware of it more and more. according to figures released this week in a report published by the Office for National Statistics which shows that one out of five women between the ages of 16 and 49 do undergo screening tests to rule out or detect Chlamydia.

Its noteworthy that even men have tuned in to becoming more aware of this silent disease Almost 79% of men today are aware of Chlamydia as compared to a meager 35% way back in 2000-20001. 91% of women too are armed with valuable information which can protect them from contracting this illness. Younger women definitely are on the higher end of positive infections probably owing to the fact that they are more sexually active than their older counterparts as figures have the last say.31% of women below 30 years have tested positive this year where as only 20% of middle aged women had the infection. Both men and women with multiple sexual partners also showed a definite interest to turn up for screening tests.

It is imperative that funds earmarked for the control of sexually transmitted diseases should reach the primary health care units where women access the screening facilities without any embarrassment whatsoever these days.

A spokesperson from the Department of Health commented that that intensive efforts of the department has indeed paid off as many could have been missed but for the Government’s interest and faithfulness in constantly siphoning lots of funds for tackling sexual health problems. Also the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence has put together a book to help raise awareness of all long acting methods of contraception with guidelines of suitability for every sexually active person.
