Methamphetamine usage also known as ice has resulted in increasing number of addicts. Health authorities are warning of the increasing number of cases// and they are struggling to deal with the consequences.

Statistics show that about one in four ice addicts have a psychotic episode. Sydney's St Vincent's Hospital has recorded a five-fold increase in patients suffering from ice psychosis. The numbers have surpassed the heroin addicts in Australia.

The reason being that ice is cheaper and more freely available than heroin. The head of emergency at St Vincent's Hospital, Dr Gordian Fulde, told that it takes about six staff members to contain a person affected by ice.

These patients are wild and violent and are the most out of control human beings. He said that it is very different from the other addition drugs such as the normal amphetamines, the old Ritalins etc.

This drug genre is completely different from the others. The head of alcohol and drug services at St Vincent's, Dr Alex Wodak, told that the Federal Government is not aiding the research to find other replacement drugs in place of the ice.

Thereby this could help in treating and reducing the number of ice addict.
