Ignorance in the Usage of Pill Persists Among Many Women

A survey was conducted which showed the level of awareness about the pill among women. It was found that over eight out of ten women using the Progestogen-only// pill are not aware that it must be taken within three hours of the normal time of intake.

Due to this many women are at risk of becoming pregnant. The survey was conducted among more than 5,700 women throughout Europe and North America.

It was conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Organon. Progestogen-only or mini-Pills prevent pregnancy by altering the thickness of the cervical mucus.

When the pill users do not take the pill at the same time everyday due to accidental delay then the reliability of the pill is compromised.

On the other hand the combined Pill and the estrogen-free Pill work mainly by inhibiting ovulation (egg release).

Hence it is more reliable than the mini-pill and women get their 12 hour grace period in case of delays.

Statistics show that about 44% of women use the Pill, 28% the condom but 26 % of pill users are not aware of the type of pill they are using.

About 25% of the woman did not have a fixed time allotted for the pill and 85% of women were not aware that the specified time window for this pill is just three hours.

Nearly seven out of ten women forget pills at their residence during the holiday season. 50% of the women forget to take pills during the holidays.

Only a minority followed instructions on what action to take to avoid pregnancy. In conclusion it was said that the poor awareness of the pill among the women population resulted in compromised reliability of the pill.
