INS ASHVINI Bags Trophy For Best Armed Forces Hospital

Indian Naval Hospital Ship (INSH) ASHVINI located in Mumbai has been named the best Armed Forces Hospital for the year 2005. //

Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee awarded the Running trophy and a cash prize of Rs 2 lakhs to the Commandant of the hospital, Rear Admiral V K Saxena here today.

The trophy, instituted in 1989, is given to the best functioning hospital among the Command Hospitals of the Indian Army and equivalent status hospitals of Navy and Air Force.

Stressing that no relief work could be carried out effectively without the participation of Armed Forces Medical Services, Mukherjee commended the role of AFMC for its yeomen's service in times of war and peace.

The minister expressed hope that medical services in general and hospitals in particular would continue to strive to deliver best health care to its clientele.

INHS ASHVINI with a capacity of 825 beds attends to all serving and retired armed forces personnel and their families, including coast guard personnel and defence civilian.

It is the only hospital in Armed Forces that boasts of heritage structures and has facilities for hyperbaric oxygen therapy, generally not available in civil hospitals.
