IIT Delhi To Display Its Technological Innovations In 'Open House'

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi will showcase over 200 innovations ranging from an easy Braille reading device to a leaves collector in its annual //technological festival "Open House I2Tech" Saturday.

"IIT Delhi is just not an engineering college providing degrees to students. It's a centre of research and subsequent technological innovations as well," said Kushal Sen, the coordinator of the event.

"Through this event we will display our technological might and express ourselves as a centre of excellence both for students and public alike."

"Our students will display over 200 new innovations developed by them within last one year. While it will provide them a platform to demonstrate their achievement, visitors can acquire knowledge about several upcoming gadgets that can bring a difference to their life," Sen told IANS.

IIT Delhi has invited students, experts, industry people and its alumni associations to participate in it in an active way. "The name open house signifies any one can walk in and get a taste of our exhibits, listen special lectures and see the live demonstrations."

Speaking about some of the new innovations, Sen, a senior professor of the department of textiles, said that a smart cane for the visually impaired would be a great attraction.

The gadget designed to be a great asset for the blind can detect bus on road through a user-triggered wireless identification system and use vibration as a warning signal while commuting.

Also on display will be products like eco-friendly sanitary napkins, television antenna holders, robots with weightlifting capability and an automated mechanical flush for urinals to decrease the wastage of water.

Sen said apart from demonstrations, there will be two special lectures on contemporary issues affecting public life. While the morning session will deliberate on taking technology to villages, the evening session will focus on
