James McCarthy was vehemently against his wife’s decision to undergo breast enlargement surgery. But he carried this desire too far//. McCarthy, 27, who belonged to Canning Town, east London, was found guilty of kidnapping his wife, Mrs. McCarthy on 9 February from the hospital where she was scheduled to undergo the surgery.

Claiming to have liked his wife the way she is, James McCarthy kidnapped his wife from the hospital where she was to get a breast enlargement surgery done.

Kerry was unhappy with her breasts, and wanted to undergo a breast enlargement surgery. To which James McCarthy told wife Kerry: "Don't do it. I like you as you are", as he physically pulled her out of the ward at the City of London's St Bartholomew's Hospital.

In the statement made by defending Counsel Michael Gomulka, "This defendant did not want his wife to undergo an augmentation operation. He did not think it was necessary. He was also worried about the surgery itself. He went to the hospital to talk her out of having the operation. When she refused he reacted in the way he did."

But what went against him was the use of brutal force and threats of killing his wife, if she didn’t comply with his order. Apparently the lady had arrived for the surgery with a black eye. He had come to the hospital with a knife and seemed to be mentally disturbed.

An arrest of McCarthy followed, even though he denied threatening his wife. He said, "I pleaded with her not to have a breast augmentation. We had a further chat and she agreed not to have it done."

The couple was only a year into their marriage and had been blessed with a nine-month-old child.
