Human Chain Seeks AIIMS Status For Tiruchi Medical College

More than 2,000 people today formed a human chain to show their solidarity and support for the upgradation of The Tiruchi Government medical college. This was an initiative to raise the college's present level of care and bring it in par with The All India Institute of Medical Sciences. //

The human chain, comprising supporters of various political parties, local people and students, stretched to three kilometres from Chattiram to Gandhi market here.

The protestors said that the Centre had earlier announced upgradation of the hospital here to AIIMS status.

However, after Anbumani Ramadoss took over as Union Health Minister, the decision was revoked and it was decided to upgrade Salem Medical College Hospital, they alleged.

The City Mayor Charubala Thondaman, local CPI-M and CPI leaders and Congress MLA Rajasekaran were among those who participated in the human chain.
