( Joanne Greenshields 30 went to Wishaw...)Hospital Says There Is Time but Baby Decides Otherwise,Health

Joanne Greenshields, 30, went to Wishaw General Hospital, Lanarkshire, after her waters broke.But she was examined by the hospital authorities// and was told that there was more time and sent back home. When this heavily pregnant mother was returning home she gave birth to the baby in the house after 45 minutes.

The hospital staff did not examine her properly. Joanne's husband Roddy, 30, said that his was in a lot of pain. He then called 999 but they took 45 minutes to arrive. Joanne during this period lost four pints blood and drifted out of consciousness. Roddy along with his wife and the paramedic battled to deliver their baby boy.

The couple lived in Chapelhall, near Airdrie, Lanarkshire. They said that it was a very traumatizing experience and would make an official complaint against the hospital.

Roddy said that he was very angry with the hospital authorities as at one point of time the cord wrapped around the baby’s neck, but he managed to unwrap it. Six weeks later, baby boy Bailey and mum are doing well. It took Roddy hours to clean the couple's home and they had to replace their bed. Joanne said that at that time when she was in the hospital she did not feel any pain but they should have examined her properly.

She said that she must have been dilated by about eight centimetres. After her blood loss she needed immediate transfusion of blood but to add to her difficulty there were also delays over her blood transfusion. She I very upset and feels that one can never get these first moments back.

Joanne is the latest mum turned away from Wishaw. Last month Kirsty McDonald, 26, was told there was no room when she went into premature labor. A spokesperson for Lanarkshire Health Board said that appropriate steps would be taken to prevent such incidence from occurring again.
