Hip resurfacing surgery becoming popular

Coimbatore, Jun 4. The long wait and high cost in the USA and UK for hip resurfacing sugary has made the city a preferred destination for treatment of late//.

With the recent approval by Food and Drug Administration of the US Government, the hip resurfacing surgery was becoming more and more popular Worldwide, Dr G Balasubramanian, a specialist in hip resurfacing surgery attached to the Sri Ramakrishna Hospital, told PTI here.

However, the surgery was either not available or not affordable in many countries due to which many patients come to India, particularly to Coimbatore, he claimed.

The surgery had revolutionized the management of arthritis hips and overseas patients had to pay only one-sixth of the cost, what they would pay in USA or in Canada, he claimed.

Balasubramanian said that one James Mcleod, a machine operator in a diamond mine at Edmonton in Canada, who was suffering from arthritis in both hips had approached him, after going through the website.

As he was told to wait for more than two years to have the surgery in Canada, where there was dearth of surgeons, James, who was advised to go overseas for treatment, preferred Coimbatore, said Balasubramanian.

Testimonials given by the previous patients prompted James to come here three weeks ago. James, who had both his hips successfully resurfaced, was walking without any pain now.

In the word of James, who left for his native on Friday last, 'I am completely pain free and can do things independently'. This is a great surgery and I am thrilled by the outcome. Many Canadians are going to follow my route to get back the pain free life, without waiting for years.+ PTI NVM VS BS PAS 06041148 DEL
