High-heels And Alcohol A Bad Combination

The fashion-conscious women are paying their price by breaking bones and spraining ankles. //

This summer has seen women falling off their high-heeled sandals, causing several injuries.

A doctor, Rupert Evans, of the accident and emergency unit at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, pointed out that these injuries could lead to long-term problems.

He advised women to wear shoes with heels less than 4cm (1.5inches), to avoid a hospital trip. Alcohol consumption aggravated the problem, he added.

The injuries range from sprained ankles to broken bones and dislocations and may lead to permanent damage in some.

President of the British Association for Emergency Medicine, Martin Shalley reiterated that high heels could lead to serious injuries, adding that Dr Evans' advice was very reasonable.

"Of course it could be a problem associated with alcohol. Alcohol and heels are a bad mix," he concluded.
