Hey Days for Surgery as Patients Shine

Ottawa: An analysis of data has revealed that more number of Canadians are going in for surgery, as compared to the figures a decade ago. The recovery time for patients after// surgery is also speedy, the study says.

A good study of hospitalization and surgery rates undertaken by the Canadian Institute for Health Information has established the growing confidence of patients in the healthcare system. The report showed that the total number of surgeries went up by 17% in 1995-1996 and 2005-2006. The analysis also pointed towards a day surgery trend in place of in-patient procedures.

According to the statistics, Nearly 1.8 million day surgery visits happened last year as compared to 1.3 million a decade ago. Further, there was a 25% decline in the number of Canadians being admitted to hospitals.
