Implementation of the proposed reform in health services in Northern Ireland is expected to reduce the number of Health and Social Service (HSS) Trusts from the existing 18 to as little as five. //

The new trust would resume operations by April 2007, according to Shaun Woodward, Health Minister. The following move has been decided taking into consideration, patients who deserve the utmost priority.

It is further anticipated that the massive restriction of bureaucracy would save a majority of the health care resources. 'I will ensure this money goes into front line services and new drug treatments. These regulations are essential if we genuinely want to get money out of bureaucracy and into helping patients,' said Mr. Woodward

A new Strategic Health and Social Services Authority would be set up soon that would be involved in management of performance and development of personal social services and health in general. The currently existing Health and Social Services Council (4) would be substituted by a single patient and client council.

It has also been planned to establish seven local commissioning groups that would assume the role of existing local health and social care groups and additionally monitor functioning in the new council areas.
