Health Department orders closure of the Mars candy factory

Chicago: During an inspection by the Chicago Public Health Department in June, officials had pointed out certain glaring anomalies in the Mars Candy factory//. The inspection had revealed certain lapses in the candy production area, including poorly maintained outlets, which could serve as easy entry points for rodents. Despite necessitating immediate remedies by the officials, the company M&M Mars Inc. candy factory, had done precious little to correct the irregularities.

Officials at the Chicago Public Health Department have taken the extreme measure of ordering a shut down of the factory.

Dr. Terry Mason, city health commissioner said,” Every licensed food establishment operator in this city, from the smallest mom and pop to the largest food processing facility, needs to understand that when we issue an order to correct a health violation, we mean business. This candy facility will remain closed until these health violations have been corrected.”

A fine has been slapped on the company to the tune of $1,500, over and above the closing of the plant.
