Health Canada Warns Of Potential Health Hazards Due To A Cough Medication

Authorities of Health Canada on Tuesday announced a warning on the usage of Triaminic vapour patches in children because of the potentially serious effects //they could have if accidentally ingest the cherry-scented patches.

The health authorities have explained that life-threatening seizures, headache, nausea, vomiting and burning in the mouth could occur in children if ingredients in these cherry-scented patches that were advertised as a cough suppressant for kids 2 years of age and older were swallowed by them.

Reports so far have indicated that at least one child in Canada has had a seizure after chewing on one of the patches, which contained camphor, eucalyptus oil and menthol. It is explained on the Triaminic Vapour Patch label to stick the patches on the throat or chest to allow the vapours to reach the nose and mouth.

Experts explain that after being applied, the patch due to its attractive cherry scent was very attractive and desirable for the children remove and ingest, and young children may highly be likely to do so. This product is available over counters as a natural health product at pharmacies and retail outlets in Canada.

The health authorities have announced that consumers who have used this product and are having concerns about their health should contact their physicians or health care practitioner. They also explained that the company would start recalling the product from store shelves. And so warned that in the meantime the consumers should stop buying or using the patches and return any of the product they have purchased to the place they got it.
