Hawaii: State Hospital in Doldrums

Honolulu: The Hawaii State Hospital has gone down the ranks in quantity and quality of treatment, mainly because of over crowding, a status report has revealed//. The status report quotes, Mr. Chang, who has expressed the inability of the state to meet the June 30th deadline, required to bring the community plan to a close.

The Health Department had received a one-year extended timeframe till June 30 to finish the community plan. The federal and state officials have agreed that constant work is going on to implement the plan.

According to Chang, the State hospitals are so pathetic that some patients resort to sleeping on the floor on mattresses in conference or activity rooms. There were not enough bathrooms and shower facilities, putting the patients in a lot of trouble. He added that "anything less than a full and complete effort ... depreciates the extraordinary efforts being put forth on a daily basis" by everyone working to improve the health system.
