Hard-Working Ladies, Beware…

Women are often multi-tasking and walking the tightrope to make a success of home and career, which ensures they bite more than they can chew! Though, such qualities //are the epitome of the ‘Woman of Substance’, yet recent research doesn’t give even a pat on the back for such back-breaking endeavors. Today’s ‘smart’ women are likely to be bogged down with ill-health due to the build up of stress and over work , making them prone to cardiovascular diseases and even death.

The run-up to the International Council on Women's Health Issues assembly were witness to the dialogue from experts in the field, who took up cudgels for women and their health, warning that women who are tugged by constant pressures from the family and career are highly vulnerable to illnesses.

Associate Professor Patricia Davidson, from the University of Western Sydney, said, “Despite the cultural, political and economic differences between nations, women are facing similar health challenges such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and problems related to ageing, sexuality and violence. Women are increasingly falling victim to the consequences of the negative side of a modern lifestyle - obesity, decreased physical activity and smoking - with the deadly result being heart disease."
