Handling forgetfulness

Forgetfulness is a common problem faced by the middle aged people. There are many reasons why women often report forgetfulness at mid-life, but simple guidelines can help you preserve memory. There is little evidence that healthy women undergo a decline// in their memory or thinking skills before the age of 70. Yet many women younger than this say they have a problem with continually forgetting things. Doctors at the Mayo Clinic say there are many possible reasons for this - stress, too many things to think about, depression or just lack of practice in memorizing.

But there are many ways in which you can tackle any memory problems. First of all, keeping socially and physically active have both been shown to improve memory and thinking skills. Actively training the mind, by taking new classes or learning new skills, is also very helpful. Limiting alcohol and stopping smoking will also boost mental skills, for it is known that nicotine has a negative effect on cognition in some older adults. Manage stress, too, as well as you can, for stress hormones can interfere with mental processes. It is also important to have regular physical checks, as heart problems and diabetes raise the risk of dementia.
