HRT an accretion of cancer

Researchers from Sweden warn women undergoing hormone replacement therapy against the risk of uterus cancer.//

Hormone Replacement Therapy is advised for women to reduce menopausal side effects like hot flushes and night sweats, and to protect them from osteoporosis and heart disease.

Research has shown the drugs, which replace natural hormones that decrease with menopause, cause a slightly increased risk of cancer of the breast and endometrium, the lining of the womb.

Dr Elisabeth Weiderpass, of the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, says that low dosages does not harm but should not be used continuously. Once women stopped using the drug the increased risk dropped quite rapidly," she said. A close watch on women taking hormone replacement therapy is recommended to counteract harmful effects.
