HIV/AIDS prevention program extended by 18 months in Bangladesh

The HIV/AIDS Prevention Program (HAPP) under the aegis of the Health Ministry of Bangladesh, scheduled to end in December 2006, after a period of five years, is slated to// continue for another 18 months, paving the way for added intervention for those under extreme risk, including injected drug users. The thrust of the programme during the extended period will be on safe blood transfusion measures.

Backed by the World Bank, the Bangladeshi government and the Britain's Department of International Development have been making strides in the implementation of the program since 2001, will now work on empowering the leadership and manpower resources of this project. Indeed, from the time of its inception in 2001, HAPP has made remarkable progress in taking the goals of the HIV/AIDS prevention program forward.
