Green Tea Consumption Found To Improve Clinical Outcome In Cancer Patients

Studies conducted on the health effects of tea and alcohol has established that the former might offer protection against leukemia while the latter can increase the chances of committing a crime.//

Researchers from the Mayo clinic analyzed the effects of green tea, which is claimed to have numerous health benefits and found that three out of four adult leukemia patients who drank the beverage had an improved clinical outcome. An improvement in the while blood cell (WBC) count was also noted.

The four study participants are believed to have switched to green tea consumption after hearing about the possible health benefits. The observed improvement could be due to the high levels of anti-oxidants such as EDCG (substances that prevent oxidative cell damage, known to play a major role in carcinogenesis).

Similar reports of the protective effects of green tea against skin cancer and breast cancer have been published elsewhere. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has however been little passive about the issue, with conflicting data obtained regarding green tea consumption and breast, prostate cancer prevention.

Getting back to the issue of alcohol and crime, the results of a Swedish study has established a 13 fold increased risk of violent acts within 24 hours following alcohol consumption. Amongst the 133 violent offenders studied, 58% had a positive test for alcohol intake.

Although drugs such as benzodiazepines and anti-depressants used for the treatment of anxiety disorders can reduce the risk of violence, taking these medicines along with alcohol is not recommended.
