Scotland based researchers have revealed that there is a definite link between disease and higher death rates with a low IQ. The conclusion was arrived at after studying the // data of 1,347 people aged about 56 in the year 1987, for a period of 17 years.

The IQ of the volunteers was assessed by a written test and socioeconomic position by an interview. It was found that IQ scores follow a social trend and that the poorest socioeconomic groups were at greatest risk of ill health and mortality. These effects were markedly reduced by higher IQ levels.

The study found that in half of the groups examined, disadvantaged people were twice as likely to fall ill as advantaged people. The results of the study have been reported in the British Medical Journal. More research has to be conducted with regard to the connection between the IQ of a person and his health.
