Gambling Addiction on the Rise in London

The British Medical Association was warned about the rising number of Internet gaming and super-casinos gambling addicts//.

GP Jan Wise, from London at the association's annual conference said that adequate steps are not being implemented to track down and help addicts. Both the NHS and the private sector should co operate with each other and create awareness among the general public. According to the statistics 5 % of 12 to 15 year-olds show signs of addiction and 75 % agreed that they have played slot machines.

It is surprising that about 40 % of the kids in the same age group have played the National Lottery. Dr Wise said that about 275,000 to 350,000 adults in the UK could be termed as gambling addicts. Hence he requested the BMA Board of Science to take the situation very seriously and look into the various treatment options. Hence in conclusion he said that the gambling laws should be made tougher.
