Frustrations Lead To self-harm

More Teenagers Are Resorting To Harming Themselves To Get Relief From Frustrations.
UK based mental health experts have revealed that more teenagers in the country inflict injuries upon themselves due to feelings of social// inadequacy and failure than previously thought.Inflicting harm upon themselves has been contemplated by 20% of the country’s boys and girls, while 20% of the girls have actually harmed themselves.

The Priory survey called Adolescent Angst studied 1,000 youngsters aged between 12 years and 19 years. This translates to over 800,000 youngsters in the country actually harming themselves, while another 1 million have thought of harming themselves. This is easily the highest rate in Europe. A violent domestic atmosphere is reportedly a reason for this, which is also leading to suicidal tendencies.

Teenagers resort to self-harm due to exam stress and other frustrations that they may face, including family break ups. Counseling the youngsters may be a cure to this. Self-harm also has the tendency to become addictive as it serves to relieve psychological distress and releases natural opioids.

The country’s Childline has revealed that there has been a 20% increase in the calls at its helpline since 1995. Self-harm may also result in suicidal tendencies. Illegal drugs have been offered to 46% of the UK’s teenaged population and 28% have actually tried out these drugs, while others have been experimenting with alcohol and sex at an early age. There has been a decline in the controls exercised by the church and the family on the country’s youngsters.
