( The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (U...)Fresh Scare of Contamination in Pork Prompts 'Prompt' Recall by Authorities,Health

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) have brought to the notice of the general public //that a consignment of pork products that were manufactured on September 13,18,19,2006 and marketed to retail and wholesale establishments in the state of Ohio , and Columbia have been discovered to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes This was established through microbiological testing.

Following this discovery more than 1,178 pounds of pork products have been recalled from of the shelves of food outlets by The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) and Herman Falter Packing Co., a Columbus, Ohio, firm.

According to authorities, the following products are subject to recall:

* 1-pound approximate weight packages of "Falter's Purity Brand, SMOKED PORK NECK BONES." Each package bears the establishment number "EST. 21054" inside the USDA mark of inspection, as well as the package code, "9-19."

* 1-pound approximate weight packages of "Falter's Purity Brand, SMOKED PORK JOWL." Each package bears the establishment number "EST. 21054" inside the USDA mark of inspection, as well as the package code, "10-27."

* 3-pound packages of "Falter's Purity Brand, (JUMBO) FRANKFURTERS, SMOKE FLAVORING ADDED." Each package bears the establishment number "EST. 21054" inside the USDA mark of inspection, as well as the package code, "10-28."

* 10-pound box of "JAROLD'S, COOKED ITALIAN SAUSAGE." Each package bears the establishment number "EST. 21054" inside the USDA mark of inspection, and may also bear the package code, "9-19-2006 ."

It has to be mentioned however that no untoward reports of illness has been reported so far, in connection with consumption of these pork products.
