Four Gay Men Carrying Highly Multiple-drug Resistant Strain of HIV Reported

It’s a discovery that may well be giving HIV health care workers sleepless nights.//

There has been an accounting of four gay men having a highly drug resistant form of HIV in King County, Seattle.

This form of AIDS progresses much more rapidly than others and is likewise more difficult to treat.

Health officials have confirmed this same strain of virus to be present in the four men, all gay, who are also methamphetamine users having multiple sex partners.

It is also confirmed that none of these men had sex with each other. Further observations are carried out to determine literally the extent to which these men could have spread this virus.

Seattle was the first metropolitan city in U.S to conduct a survey on the count of persons infected with multiple drug resistant forms of HIV. King County records a death rate of 100 persons annually from AIDS.

So far there has been 12 cases of multiple drug resistant HIV in the county, but what is worrying doctors is that none of these are as resistant as the present one.
