First Formal Protest by Medical Students against Quotas

The medical students in Patna for the first time organized a rally from medical college campus to Kargil chowk in Patna without caring about the scorching heat.// The main aim of the protest is to condemn the government’s move to increase OBC quotas in educational institutions. Students and interns of two medical colleges Patna Medical College and Hospital and the Nalanda Medical College and Hospital took participated in the protest rally.

They have threatened to go on an indefinite strike if their demands were not met by the government. It’s likely that other medical colleges like Magadh Medical College and hospital in Gaya, Darbhanga and Bhagalpur would join the protest against quotas very soon. The angry students said that they would boycott classes, exams and keep away from hospital duty. On the other hand students of several medical colleges in Ahmedabad, including N H L Municipal Medical College and B J Medical College, have already decided to boycott classes for an indefinite period.
