Food Manufacturers have finally got the message and if sound bytes from the Food and Drink Federation (FDF) are to be believed, many of the popular brands// have been doing their bit to reduce transfat from their products. The figures from the FDF books speak about a whopping ￡1.5 billion worth of products, under the axe, with the fat portion cut-off for the good health of posterity.

Transfat as the name suggests is unsaturated fat that is linked to coronary heart disease and many other lifestyle diseases. Brands who have joined the lean bandwagon, are, Horlicks, Mars Bars, Weetabix. Nestle, Kellogg's and Cadbury Schweppes.

Julian Hunt, director of communications at the FDF said, “The industry is committed to reducing the level of transfats to as low as is technically possible and has been actively reducing these levels. Many companies through reformulating their products have managed to dramatically reduce the levels over the past two years."

City Restaurants in New York may also follow the drive to eliminate trans fats, as New York's health department chews upon a proposed ban on trans fats in restaurants.
