Fight Heart disease and Pain with Meditation

Latest research into transcendental meditation says it is possible to fight body pain and a host of risk factors of heart disease including high blood pressure and fatty deposition in blood vessels- atherosclerosis. The study indicates that transcendental meditation, practiced for 20 minutes twice a day, has a positive, measurable effect on the buildup of fatty deposits in arteries and also plays a major role in alleviating pain in many patients.

Researchers from the College of Maharishi Vedic Medicine in Fairfield, Iowa, conducted the study along with others from Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science in Los Angeles and the University of California, Los Angeles. Ayurveda which originated in India thousands of years ago has attracted world wide acclaim and meditation is the hallmark of Indian school of medicine and forms the crux of even the rituals and patterns of worship in Hinduism.

Unfortunately in India as more people take up and ape the West in a big way it is just the reverse in the United States where people are taking note of Ayurveda in a big way. The study was conducted on 60 African-Americans and after a seven-month period the results were extensively researched and studied and to the surprise of even the critics the findings were significant. However experts add that they advice meditation only as a supplement and not as a substitute to the existing therapy. While in India a few people are busy rubbishing our glorious past the West is paying glorious tributes to our culture. What an irony?
