Federal Plan: Strategies to Cut Down Wait Times for Children’s Surger

Many children are unable to undergo timely surgeries due to long wait times which cost their health adversely. A $2.6-million project, aimed at evolving methods to cut down// waiting times for children’s surgery, seems to have drawn flak in the initial stages. The project has been criticized as a half-hearted endeavor, sans the opinion of the provinces.

The15-month pilot project is geared to collate accurate data regarding six crucial surgical areas. The areas delineated are cardiac and cancer care, neurology, sight, spinal deformity and dental treatment which needs anesthesia.

The second stage of the project will concentrate on evolving a treatment plan for children who are unable to cope with undue waiting times. A conference is scheduled to take place in February with the provinces and territories to gauge the progress made in the project.
