Fasting Mamata's Health Condition Deteriorates

A seven-member medical team constituted by the Trinamool Congress monitored the deteriorating condition of party chief Mamata Banerjee Thursday morning// even as her hunger strike against farmland acquisition for a Tata Motors project entered its 25th day.

The medical team, led by physician Sudarshan Ghosh Dastidar, examined Mamata who had to be again put on oxygen. The doctors attending on her said her blood pressure has dropped coupled with low pulse rate, chest pain and muscle cramp.

Her condition is worrisome, doctors said. Though the doctors said Mamata needed to take some oral fluid, the Trinamool leader refused it.

Mamata's blood pressure was 96/52 in the morning.

Meanwhile, a possible solution to the situation might emerge if an official letter for talks from the government reaches Mamata Thursday, sources close to the party said.

State Home Secretary Prasad Ranjan Roy Wednesday said the Singur impasse could end in a few days, indicating a move from the government.

Left Front sources said a letter might reach the fasting leader from Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya who again appealed her to withdraw the fast and join in talks.

West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi Wednesday night called on Mamata with a fresh appeal to withdraw her fast.
