Farm Boy Airlifted by PSNI helicopter To Safety

A teenage boy, badly hurt in a farm accident, claimed a chance for survival after he was airlifted by a Helicopter//.

The 16 year old teenage boy had suffered grave injuries on his upper body, and was lifted by a PSNI helicopter. Insp Roger McConnell, who accompanied the boy in the helicopter, said “I don't want to take all the credit, because the fire service, paramedics and local police who were on the scene all deserve praise. But we certainly played a part in getting him to hospital alive."

The boy was bleeding profusely and it was important that he received immediate treatment that can save his life. The situation was pretty serious, since the boy had lost a lot of blood; therefore it was imperative that he received care from a paramedic while in the helicopter itself.

The local police took a quick decision to get a helicopter, as an ambulance would not have been able to get the boy to the hospital on time. The teenager is still in a critical condition in hospital and Insp McConnell said: "The thoughts of my officers and those officers in Carrick are all with the boy's family, at what must be a terrible time. The Carrick police have showed other services all over Northern Ireland that we can use the helicopter in this sort of emergency. When there is no other option, in extreme circumstances, this equipment is available."
